Beijing, May 1 2008,

Dear Mr. Rogge,

As you are well aware ’One World One Dream’ fully reflects the essence and universal values of the Olympic spirit. We have a dream too…

A medal for the Olympics on labour rights.

To win this medal the IOC must ensure that respect for workers rights is an integral part of the Olympic Charter and of the IOC Code of Ethics. Make it a condition for future Olympic Games that the host country must have ratified and implemented the core ILO conventions. Require that, as a contractual condition in its licensing, sponsorship and marketing agreements, labour practices and working conditions involved in the production of IOC branded products comply with internationally recognised labour standards.

Maltreatment and exploitation of workers violates internationally accepted standards and is contrary to the Olympic ideals of ethics and fair play. Unfortunately you haven’t addressed these problems although you have been urged to take action since 2003.

We strongly believe that the IOC has the power and the responsibility to significantly improve working conditions in countries hosting the Olympic Games. We urge you to accept your responsibilities and take action now!

Sincerely,
